Universal Genève is a brand that occupies a revered position among vintage watch enthusiasts and connoisseurs of haute horlogerie. Celebrated for its mechanical ingenuity and balanced mid-century design language, the manufacture reached its zenith in the mid-1960s with complicated chronographs such as the iconic Tri-Compax.

The reference 881101/01—widely celebrated under the moniker "Eric Clapton"—stands as one of the most sought-after vintage chronographs ever created. The legendary musician was frequently photographed wearing this exact reference during the mid-1960s while performing with Cream, forever linking the model to rock-and-roll history.

This specific MK1 execution from 1964 showcases the hallmark characteristics collectors covet: an authentic silver-white dial paired with four contrasting black sub-dials (Panda layout), an integrated complete calendar displaying day, date, and month, a poetic moonphase complication, and the distinctive blued steel chronograph hands specific to the earliest MK1 production. Measuring 36mm across in stainless steel, the case features twisted lyre lugs that lend the watch remarkable wrist presence and poise.

Powering this masterpiece is the legendary in-house Calibre 281, a column-wheel chronograph movement featuring a Breguet overcoil hairspring that represents the finest mechanical traditions of the manufacture. Sourced directly from its original first owner, preserved in crisp, unpolished condition, and freshly serviced, this 881101/01 is an extraordinary, investment-grade collector's timepiece.
