The late 1960s marked an era of remarkable design transformation at Omega. As the manufacture expanded the visual architecture of its flagship sports and dress collections, the Seamaster embraced bold geometric lines, integrated aesthetics, and expressive dial depth. Emerging at the pinnacle of this creative period in 1969, the Omega Seamaster Day-Date reference 168.034 represents a bridge between high-precision chronometer-grade engineering and the progressive industrial design language of the late Space Age.
Housed in a substantial 38 mm stainless steel cushion case—often appreciated for its sculptural hooded lug profile and seamless transition into the bracelet—this reference commands an imposing and balanced wrist presence. The dial is a masterclass in horological depth: adorned with prominent, multi-faceted three-dimensional applied block indices that rise dramatically above the surface, catching light from every angle. A dual day and date calendar window framed at 3 o'clock provides daily utility without disrupting the architectural symmetry of the layout.
Powering the watch is an automatic in-house movement from Omega's golden era of tractor calibers, certified for chronometer-level precision and engineered for enduring durability.
What makes this particular 1969 example an extraordinary find for the purist collector is its untouched originality. The watch survives fully original in every key aspect, down to the original Omega-signed Hesalite crystal retaining its etched central emblem, the period-correct crown, and its long, original stainless steel reference 1170 bracelet. Mechanically robust and tested on the timegrapher at +5 seconds per day with a solid 255° amplitude, this is a pristine, unrepeatable artifact of vintage Omega craftsmanship.
