The Rolex Datejust is the undisputed archetype of the classic modern wristwatch. Introduced in 1945 to commemorate the company’s 40th anniversary, it debuted as the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date in a window on the dial. Over subsequent decades, the model has undergone a continuous, deliberate evolution, combining enduring design codes with mechanical refinements.
The reference 116200 represents the six-digit generation of the classic 36mm Datejust. Introduced in the mid-2000s, this reference bridges traditional mid-century proportions with modern engineering: redesigned solid-link Oyster construction, polished case flanks, a smooth domed steel bezel, and an upgraded Oysterclasp with the Easylink 5mm extension system.
This particular example from 2007 stands out for its refined slate grey sunburst dial with applied Roman numerals—commonly referred to by collectors as the "Grey Roman" dial. The monochromatic contrast between the rhodium-toned dial and the brushed and polished 904L stainless steel gives the watch a restrained, contemporary presence on the wrist. Ticking inside is Rolex’s legendary in-house Caliber 3135, widely regarded as one of the most reliable and robust automatic movements ever engineered.
Preserved in authentic, unpolished condition, this piece retains its factory case geometry, sharp bevels, and distinct satin brushings, making it a compelling candidate for both seasoned collectors and daily wearers.
