The Rolex Milgauss was originally introduced in 1956 to meet the demands of the scientific community, specifically designed to withstand magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss. While early models were primarily functional tool watches for engineers and technicians at facilities like CERN, the modern Milgauss evolved into one of Rolex's most distinctive and recognizable timepieces.

The reference 116400GV (standing for "Glace Verte") debuted with a feature never before seen on a Rolex: a green sapphire crystal. According to Rolex, developing this tinted crystal was such a complex process that they didn't even bother patenting it, confident that it would be too difficult for competitors to replicate. Paired with a deep black dial, vibrant orange hour markers at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, and the iconic orange lightning-bolt seconds hand, the green crystal creates an unmistakable glowing halo around the edge of the dial.

Housed in a 40mm stainless steel Oyster case and powered by the caliber 3131 with its internal magnetic shield, this discontinued model blends Rolex's robust engineering with a playful, unconventional aesthetic. It remains a highly sought-after piece for collectors looking for a Rolex that stands out from the traditional sports models.
