The Tudor Prince Oysterdate, cherished by collectors for its shared DNA with Rolex, represents a pivotal era in horological history. As the more "daring" sibling of the Crown, Tudor offered the robust engineering of the Rolex Oyster case combined with unique, playful dial designs. The Prince Oysterdate is one of the most significant timepieces in this lineage, bridging the gap between utilitarian tool watches and high-end luxury.
This 1966 model, crafted in 18k solid yellow gold, is a rare execution that elevates the Prince from a daily driver to a sophisticated statement piece. What makes this specific reference 7966 truly stand out is the "Small Rose" logo at 12 o’clock—a hallmark of early Tudor elegance before the transition to the shield logo. Adding to its charm is the iconic "Smiley" self-winding text at 6 o’clock. This curved typography is a favorite detail among vintage enthusiasts, giving the dial a "smiling" character that is both whimsical and classic. Along with these unique features, this watch has an exquisite look and feel that we as watch collectors love.
Dating to 1966, this 7966 features a beautiful golden sunburst dial that remains in exceptional condition. The dial boasts raised, 3D baton markers that provide incredible depth and catch the light from every angle. The date complication adds a practical touch, housed within the legendary Oyster architecture. While the case shows honest signs of its 60-year journey, including a small impact mark and scratches on the lugs, the watch retains its original Rolex-signed crown, serving as a reminder of the heritage shared between these two brands.
