Notwithstanding its storied past, the Santos de Cartier is a superb work of art. With its blue steel hands and silvered opaline dial, the stainless steel timepiece makes a bold statement. The watch, which is significantly larger than its predecessors, is 39.8 x 47.5 mm and fits comfortably within contemporary size parameters. The Cartier caliber 1847 MC movement powers the mechanical automatic watch. With its date window at six o'clock and highly readable roman numerals, the watch is especially striking when worn with a matching bracelet. If only Dumont had this watch at his disposal! It might have been a lot more useful than the original!
Alberto Santos Dumont, a Brazilian aviator who had to be able to tell time while flying, is honored by the Santos watch. The Santos watch, named after its creator Louis Cartier, was created in 1904 and was worn on the wrist. Although it may not have been the first wristwatch ever, it was undoubtedly one of the first pilot's watches ever produced. The watches' square-ish case and rounded corners became classics, and in 1911 they were first offered for sale to the general public.
