While its legacy is undeniable, the Santos de Cartier impresses on its own merits as a contemporary classic. Crafted in stainless steel, this elegant timepiece features a silvered opaline dial with crisp Roman numerals and blued steel hands—an unmistakable Cartier signature.
At 35mm, it hits the sweet spot for everyday wear, offering a versatile fit for a wide range of wrists. Inside, the in-house caliber 1847 MC automatic movement delivers dependable performance.
Worn on its matching steel bracelet, the watch has a bold, cohesive presence—both timeless and modern. One might imagine Alberto Santos-Dumont would’ve appreciated the updated design; it brings all the spirit of the original, now refined for life in the 21st century.
Alberto Santos Dumont, a Brazilian aviator who had to be able to tell time while flying, is honored by the Santos watch. The Santos watch, named after its creator Louis Cartier, was created in 1904 and was worn on the wrist. Although it may not have been the first wristwatch ever, it was undoubtedly one of the first pilot's watches ever produced. The watches' square-ish case and rounded corners became classics, and in 1911 they were first offered for sale to the general public.
