The Datejust reference 1601 is a timeless classic—effortless, versatile, and undeniably elegant. This 1975 example remains as fresh and relevant today as it was when first introduced. Much like a great melody that never fades, the Datejust has an enduring appeal that transcends trends. It’s a watch that suits anyone, pairs with anything, and fits any occasion.
Beyond its aesthetics, the Datejust offers an unmatched balance of comfort and presence. It’s the kind of watch that feels natural on the wrist yet instills a quiet confidence in its wearer. This particular example showcases the quintessential Datejust design, featuring a robust stainless steel Oyster case, a refined white-gold fluted bezel, and the iconic Jubilee bracelet. The blue sunburst dial, accented by beautifully aged lume, highlights the very best of what a vintage Datejust can offer.
The Datejust is the perfect watch for anyone, but it’s especially ideal for those just stepping into the world of vintage timepieces. With its timeless design and enduring appeal, this is a classic you’ll appreciate for years to come.
This particular example is especially interesting for collectors because it comes in a full-set with Austrian punched papers, it features a blue dial aas the most popular of all colours as well as a sigma dial, which makes it even rarer!

When it comes to vintage watches, the smallest details make the biggest difference—they’re everything. This is especially true when evaluating the originality of a dial, as any re-dial or service dial can significantly affect a watch’s overall value. That’s why there’s so much debate surrounding the peculiar, round marks sometimes found near the “Swiss” or “Swiss Made” text on dials from the 1970s. These marks are actually the lowercase Greek letter sigma, giving rise to the term “sigma dials.”
Sigma dials were a voluntary distinction introduced by certain watchmakers—specifically, those belonging to l’Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l'Or (APRIOR), a trade group for gold watch manufacturers. This explains why sigma dials aren’t found across all brands. The initiative was spearheaded in 1973 by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry, with a clear goal: to highlight the use of gold components in watches, reinforcing the perceived intrinsic value of traditional Swiss timepieces.
