One of our favorite examples of a vintage chronograph with a specific function is the Omega Seamaster Soccer Timer. The chronograph's design reveals the origin of its nickname, despite its traditional capabilities. The wearer (perhaps a referee) can easily time the two halves of a soccer match because the three o'clock sub-dial is split into two 45-minute halves.
The Seamaster Soccer Timer was available in three different references and was manufactured for several years during the 1960s and 1970s. Aside from its functionality, the colors on the dial of this reference 145.020 example make this watch absolutely gorgeous. The bright chronograph seconds hand and tonneau-shaped case introduce some popular funky design elements that gained popularity in the 1970s. The movement is Omega's manually wound caliber 861, which was also installed in the Speedmaster Professional ref. 145.022 that was available at the time in the Omega catalog with this Soccer Timer.
The Seamaster "Soccer Timer" has an incredibly entertaining design with genuine sporty functionality, whether you're supporting your favorite team or watching your children play at the yearly school tournament.
