Never underestimate Jaeger-LeCoultre’s technical prowess—this Geophysic Universal Time is proof of it. Designed with global travel in mind, it marries a world time complication with true seconds (also known as dead seconds) for precision that’s as practical as it is intriguing. All functions are operated solely via the crown, eliminating the need for pushers and making your next transatlantic journey that much simpler.
Its appeal lies in the seamless fusion of refined style and horological ingenuity. Take, for example, the non-circular balance wheel, engineered to minimize air resistance, or the dead seconds feature—an elevated touch that blends mechanical charm with a hint of playful sophistication. The result is a world timer that is as extraordinary in performance as it is in presence.

Additional Info
From its earliest days, Jaeger-LeCoultre has stood among the most accomplished watchmakers in the world. Renowned for precision and relentless innovation, the brand holds hundreds of patents and has produced more than a thousand in-house movements—an achievement few can match.
The original Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic debuted in 1958, created both to mark the company’s 125th anniversary and to celebrate the inaugural “International Geophysical Year,” a global scientific initiative that brought together 67 countries in fields ranging from geophysics and seismology to glaciology. (Other notable watches born of this moment include the often-overlooked Nivada Grenchen Antarctic.)
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s contribution to this landmark occasion came in the form of the Geophysic Chronometer, reference E 168—a purpose-built instrument blending robust engineering with refined watchmaking. It featured a self-compensating balance spring, a central hacking mechanism, and a specially designed adjustment spring on the balance cock for easier regulation. A Glucydur balance provided stability against temperature changes, while an anti-magnetic inner cage protected the movement up to 600 gauss—critical for scientists working in magnetic-heavy environments.
Its reputation as a rugged, all-terrain timekeeper was solidified later that same year, when the Geophysic accompanied the captains of the USS Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine, during its pioneering submerged transit beneath the North Pole.
