IWC Ingenieur Laureus Sport For Good Foundation Limited Edition IW3239-09
The Ingenieur was established in the 1950s, but it would take another 20 years for it to become widely recognized. The increased magnetic resistance of the Ingenieur was its unique selling point when it was first introduced, making it a comparatively ordinary watch. In the 1970s, a talented man named Mr. Gérald Genta created a new design for the Ingenieur name. After achieving success with the Royal Oak design at Audemars Piguet and the Nautilus at Patek Philippe, Genta collaborated with IWC to create a new Ingenieur model that would usher in a new era for the brand with a modern aesthetic.
It was in 2015 when IWC presented Ingenieur models with a gentleman's design. One of them was an Ingenieur 3239 with a blue dial. It was a special edition limited to 1,500 pieces for the ‘Laureus Sport For Good’ organisation. A classic in the Ingenieur watch family, the graceful three-hand Ingenieur Automatic Edition "Laureus Sport for Good Foundation" has a timeless, distinctly clear design in addition to magnetic field resistance. This indicates that the athletic watch significantly surpasses the Swiss requirements set forth for watches' resistance to magnetic fields. The substantial screw-in crown is roomy and surrounded by sturdy protective shoulders. The Ingenieur Automatic Edition "Laureus Sport for Good Foundation" is therefore incredibly robust, functional, and appropriate for daily use despite its elegant appearance. The engraving on the case back is one of the distinguishing features of the Laureus special editions, in addition to their blue dial. The dial has multiple levels to it, with a simple inner circle that contains the IWC logo in it, a middle level with the applied markers, and finally the outer ring that slopes upwards towards the bezel giving an extra dimension to the minute track. This year's engraving's theme is drawn from the winning drawing from the 2014 IWC drawing competition, which was part of all the global Laureus Sport for Good Foundation projects. Numerous children and young people from all over the world were encouraged to submit entries under the theme "Time to celebrate." The 13-year-old Nakayenga Zahara from Nakulabye, Uganda, won the jury's choice for best drawing. In her photo, a joyful group of pom-pom-wearing cheerleaders is seen celebrating a goal.
Clearly, despite having a gentle appearance, the Ingenieur underwent decades of modifications and advancements before reaching its current iteration.
