As far as we're concerned, a vintage Heuer Carrera is about as cool a chronograph as you can get. It boasts stunning vintage aesthetics, authentic motorsport heritage, and a design originally crafted by the man himself: Mr. Jack Heuer. The Carrera got its name in 1963 from the legendary Mexican cross-isthmus road race, La Carrera Panamericana. At least one other prominent international brand borrowed this name for one of their products (hint... it has four wheels and the engine in the back).
The Carrera originally ran on manually wound chronograph movements. But in 1969, with Heuer at the forefront of the automatic chronograph revolution, everything changed. Production quickly pivoted towards automatic models, marking a new chapter for the Carrera. It was one of the first lines to receive this major upgrade, sparking a burst of new variations from Heuer’s workshops.
Our offered Heuer Ref. 1153 is equipped with one of the world's first automatic chronograph movements: the Caliber 11, introduced in 1969. This was a collaborative development by Heuer-Hamilton, Breitling-Leonidas, and Dubois-Dépraz. It features a cam switching mechanism and a micro-rotor positioned beneath the chronograph module—a truly beautiful movement.
This model, reference 1153, stands out as one of the most coveted pieces from that groundbreaking automatic era. Dating to around 1976, it captures a pivotal moment in watchmaking history. Featuring a stunning silver sunburst dial with grey-blue subsidiary registers and an outer tachymeter ring, this particular piece is a rarity in any condition—let alone one this immaculate!
